About UC Berkeley Food Pantry

The Basic Needs Center serves as a physical resource hub for basic needs resources and services. The Center also is a space for students to create community and access coordinated support for their basic needs. We are committed to cultivating wellness and belonging in the Basic Needs Center space.

Basic Needs Security refers to the food, housing, and economic security of our community. We understand that basic needs have a direct impact on the mental-emotional-physical health, wellness, academic performance, professional development, and holistic success of students.

The quality of life of our students has a major impact on their sense of belonging, persistence, graduation, and overall experience. Therefore, we refuse to accept hunger, malnourishment, and homelessness as part of our university.

UC Berkeley Food Pantry reviews

Kristin Kim Nguyen

UC Berkeley not only launched a food pantry as part of their Basic Needs program but also a center where students can access more resources, all managed by student volunteers, interns, and committee leads who work on support and outreach.

While students were in finals, I was able to come and help volunteer at the UC Berkeley Food Pantry. Volunteers came to help re-stock the pantry, which involved counting current items on shelves, getting food into the pantry space, and re-stocking items. This is a community space, intended to support each of us as we become the best we can be.
